Error installing XP Prof SP2

When installing my SP2, I get an error that "Key Access
HKLM\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\EVENTLOG\SECURITY\SECURITY,\'EVENTMESSAGEFILE\'.
5:Access is denied. Repeated retries do not work to back this up. If I try
to bypass with with Ignore, install goes on for a while, but then I get a
"Does Not Complete" box with only an OK choice, at which point the update
uninstalls and reboots. What can I do to fix this?

BTW, I cannot find this key in the local machine, either.

Mark:
I had previously read and tried most of this in order to try to troubleshoot
the install. I got nowhere. Was this just general help (much appreciated)
or did I miss something in reading this?

Review log files, check the setupapi.log and svcpack.log

Registry permissions errors might be the last entry in the setupapi.log file
created during an upgrade attempt.

Thank you. The log shows the set of errors. I think that I can go forward
from here at least to another stopping point.
