problem demotting a domain controller

how can i resolve the following error message. I am
trying to remove active directory on the last domain
controller in a domain which is part of a forest.

"The operation failed because: The Directory Service
failed to replicate off changes made locally. The DSA
operation is unable to proceed because of a DNS lookup
failure."

Pretty much says it all ... Point this server towards the DNS server hosting
the SRV records.
