And since the network installation of SP2 from Microsoft.com. I only
have Win XP now when booting up. Which is quite nice and not a
problem. However, why is this been implemented?

Thanks.

This is by design apparently. Your version of XP hasn't changed it's just
not shown on the startup screen anymore.

Indeed strange. The same here.
I wonder if the Home version's splash screen has changed also.

My guess is that its not by design but by mistake ;)

Gerard .

Somebody thought it looked prettier?

No, it's actually by design. Pre-SP2 you had a separate screen for XP
Home, XP Pro, XP Media Center Edition, XP Tablet PC Edition, etc. Post
SP2 they all just say Windows XP.

Thanks for your reply.

Do you know why MS changed this? It may not seem very important, but I
expect some strategic marketing concept behind a change like this. Something
like moving to one version for business and home in the future. Will
Longhorn have two or more versions?

Gerard
(just curious)

I don't know. Longhorn at this point is so far out that any speculation
on what it will and won't have is likely to change before actual
implementation. Rumors are that there will continue to be separate home
and business products as there are with XP, but again it's too early to
put real faith in that.

Perhaps someone pointed out the separate graphics increased the size of the
download unnecessarily, and really served no purpose.
