privilege failure with system restore ?

Marc

Have read and tried most of what I could find on the
web. Posted on a different thread but got no help; here
is the problem:

I believe my system restore is disabled. Tried to enable
it, but it is still not working. Sys-restore tab does
not appear in system properties window.

Error msg: "You do not have sufficient security
privileges to restore your system. Please contact
sysadmin..."

There are two administrator accounts for the local
machine. Neither one has access to restore.

System restore service is running (from net start query).
From local group policy edit: "disable system restore" =
disabled.
config sys-restore option set to not configured.

double checked values in registry and they appear to be
correct (dword disableSR = 0).

Machine is workstation in a domain. Neither Local
(machine account) admin nor domain admin can access the
sys-restore.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Marc

I have got the same problem: XP Pro machine on network in a domain.
Everything else works fine except the user interface of System Restore is
inaccessible. "You have insufficient privileges to restore your system...".
SystemResore tab is also missing. I have also checked all those places you
mentioned, everyhting seems to be OK.

I have strong suspicion that it is something to do with some default group
policy being propagated through the domain. My domain administrator has no
idea since he has set no such policy intentionally. Also the server machine
is Windows 2000 Server.

(However, when I unplug the system and login as local admin the same
behaviour persists. If my above threory was correct then I would expect
different behaviour. So much for that theory...)

After getting no response and getting frustrated I have knocked together a
few VB scripts to control system restore. However these are crude and I
would prefer to be able to access normal interface for System Restore.

Please can anybody help or has a clue what might cause this?

This question is asked many times on these newsgroups but no body seems to
know the reason or a solution :(

Yeah -
It seems that this problem might be above the heads of
whoever's reading these groups.

I too am running on w2k servers at work.

But running w2k server at home, and i can still do sys-
restore on my xp machine.

If and when I find out what's going on, i'll try
to 'share the wealth'.
