After undating to service pack 2, my orinter does not work properly. One or
two pages at most will print, then I receive an error message. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled the printer and updated the driver and this
didn't help. Any ideas?

You'll need to uninstall and reinstall the printer
Start>Control Panel>Printers and Faxes>rightclick the printer and click
Delete.
Unplug the printer and reboot. Plug the printer back in and you should get a
pop-up that new hardware was found. Reinstall the printer according to the
brochure/owners manual that came with the printer. You may need to uninstall
the software and reinstall that also.

I have done this and it did not help. I have also cleared the memory on the
printer. What I find odd is that the printer is not shown in the device
manager. There is a printing support USB, but I have a Lexmark printer and
Lexmark is not listed in the device manager, but the printer is installed.

Printers are hidden by device manager. Don't ask me why, it's another team.

Click View, select Show hidden devices

The yech support at Lexmark told me it should be in device manager, but this
seems to be moot point. Last night I was trying to run some kind of scanning
test that the tech support had asked me to try and the printer just died. It
lost power an even after unplugging and replugging it, it will not power up.
I am guessing by the number of posts about Lexmark printers, that it would be
best to avoid this brand when purchasing a new one?
