Unable to print after SP3 update, 1 USB, 1 network printer

I have a computer that started developing printing issues last week, pretty
close to receiving the SP3 update. Older Canon Pixma iP1600 printer on USB
gives 'The print queue is full' errors - confirmed queue is empty. HP
LJ4050n network printer gives 'Unable to create print job' error. Test pages
can be printed on both printers from printer control panel, but not from
computer. The system will print to a different model HP LJ across the
network.

I disconnected both printers, made sure they didn't have software installed,
removed them from the Printer/Fax listing, and deleted the drivers. Then
downloaded fresh driver sets from manufacturer and reinstalled printers, to
get same errors.

One additional effect I noticed: %WIN%\System32\spool\Printers will have a
..spl file after a failed print attempt. It can't be deleted unless you stop
and then restart the Spooler service. Restarting the Spooler has no effect
on the printing errors.

Any help anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Step 4 was included originally. I had to reboot before the step so the
system would release the drivers for deletion, but then they were deleted out
of the Server Properties/Drivers tab, and rebooted again.

One thing I forgot to add: I rolled back SP3 at the very beginning of
everything, but that had no effect and I still received the same errors when
trying to print.

Try shockwave player.

This worked twice for us.

I dont know why but I think a couple types of printers use this in leiu with the print queue.

Version numbers are:
unidrv.dll: 0.3.6000.16386
unidrvui.dll: 0.3.1296.1

Both have creation dates of 15 Aug 2007, and modified dates of 9 Mar 2007.

Hope this helps.

You are running with XP SP2 and Vista drivers. You will need to update or
rollback one of them.

First stop the print spooler service

Since you are rolled back SP3, you might as well rollback the unidrv.dll
file that came with it.

I'm sure there is a Vista unidrvui.dll file sitting in a new or old
subdirectory under \windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3

to get the unidrv.dll file for XP SP2 open a cmd window

cd %windir%\"driver cache"\i386
expand sp2.cab -F:unidrv.dll . (this should be the 1296 version of
unidrv.dll)

copy unidrv.dll %windir%\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3

y

net start spooler
