Sometimes when I want to cancel some printing of documents, the printer
seems to go out of control. It will continue to print ,maybe one line of
garbage on each page. Turning the power off, or disconnecting the printer
from the computer seems to have no affect. When I the printer back on, one
page at a time with one line of junk continues to print. Any ideas?
Thanks

Yes, the data (information) of the document you are
printing is already in the "spooler" of your printer,
thus its continuation. Unplugging the printer will not
stop it when you plug it back in. You can do the
following: Start/ControlPanel/Printers and Other
Hardware/View Installed Printers/doubleclick your default
printer/under "Printer" click "Pause Printing"
and "Cancel all Documents". It may help to clear the
spooler by unplugging the USB line and rebooting the PC,
then plug it back in. There's got to be a better way!
Anyone with additional comments?

Modern printers have what is called a buffer.. this loads the material to
print so that the printer takes on the job without having to tie up the
computer.. when one cancels a print job, the buffer has to empty first..
this can lead to more than a few lines being printed before the cancel
command takes effect.. any attempt to curtail this process, pressing the
power key on the printer for example, will lead to the printer going into
spasms.. to clear the buffer in these cases, remove the power cable from the
back of the printer and leave for a few minutes.. this will clear the
buffer..
