printing trouble

This is a re-post with more explanation...

All of a sudden, nothing is printing on my HP Laserjet 6P. It has worked
fine for over a year..and just last week it quit. The document goes into
the print queue, but nothing ever seems to make it to the printer. I have
removed and re-added it, as well as changed the cable and tried another 6P.
I moved the printer and cable to another computer with a 6P and it works
fine. The printer test if run by pressing the buttons combo on the printer.

I have tried printing directly to printer as well as unchecked
bidirectional. These wouldn't be the problem anyway since it worked for a
long time.

So I have ruled out the printer and cable....what else could be causing it?
The computer clearly sees it when adding it (it detects the type and port,
LPT1).

When I hit print, the doc just goes to the queue and sits...no errors come
up at all. It is a Win2000 Dell PC. It has to be local, as I get the same
thing when sharing it and printing to it as a network printer.

Parrallel port slightly bad?? I wouldn't think it would detect and install
printer if that were the case. I am lost!!

If I understand your post correctly,
you can take your printer to another computer and it works just fine, right?

I'm sure that you've already uninstalled and installed the printer drivers,
right?

There's also another file on your 'C' disk that I found out about it the
hard way. The reason why I mention the 'C' disk is because in this case the
printer was networked and no one else had any problems printing except for
this one user.
Anyway, I searched the 'C' disk for the printer string, in your case it
would be "LaserJet 6P". I found several files. I ignored files like DLL's.
I wound up erasing one too many files and recovered them from the recycle
bin. I then reinstalled the printer drivers. Case closed. I don't know
what that file was, but it had to be manually erased before reinstalling the
printer drivers.
