Printing offline

Isn't it possible to set a printer to be offline? I'm
using Windows XP Professional in a network, and I am
testing printing macros in Access. I want to disable the
default printer so that the computer goes through the
motions of printing, but nothing actually comes out of
the printer.

I know that I have been able to do this in the past, but
I can't find an offline setting anywhere.

Is there a reason for this feature to be removed? Earlier
versions of Windows would allow the user to set any
printer (local or network) to be used offline.

If it is a network connection, then no. You could setup a local printer and
then pause it so nothing prints.

This is an amazingly stupid return to the days of those wacky hardware
printer buffers. Who the heck thought this was a good idea? Let's see, is
Microsoft lanning on introducing a line of printer buffers next spring?
