printers and add printer disappear when trying to print

have a Windows 2000 that intermittently will drop all
printers Icons and add printer Icon, will no print job
sent, gives error printer is not available, does not locks
up the Pc., but to cget printers back we have to restart
the Pc., sometimes more than once.
Please let me know if there is anything I can try to solve
this problem. I read article 271248 on Knowledge base but
the Winnt folder does not have any DLL's.

check spooler service and also make sure that when you start pc it start
automatically.
set in action field(when it failed to start) to restart it again.
check system alert also
