Printer Recommendations Please?

R

Ron

Currently tossing up purchasing either a epson 3800, epson 4800 or a Canon
imagePROGRAF iPF5000 (I have read about serious banding issues with the
older printers and canon not repairing this and also canon not covering the
print head or cartridges under their warranty).

The printer I purchase will be for commercial quality printing, particularly
large wedding photos.

Many thanks for any assistance/advice.

Take care all.

Cheers

There is not doubt that the Canon IPF5000 is the clear winner here.
http://luminous-landscape.com/ has a review of that printer and it also
compares it to the Epson in manner details. While usually partial to
Epson printers in general they choose the Canon in this case. Read the
review and choose for your self. Plus the Canon is way cheaper to run
ink wise and is much more flexible when doing matte and gloss.

JohnF responds:

You're looking at serious professional equipment. I wonder if some of the
photgraphy-oriented newsgroups and forums mght be a better source of
information.

Regarding the Canon warranty and banding, I've not seen either issue raised
with respect to the PROGRAF series. Where did you read such?

I am aware that use of non-Canon inks will create a warranty issue, and I
suspect CANON would be a stickler on the warranty for a PROGRAF printhead.
It doesn't sound like your typical $60 printhead.

OK, I stand corrected. The PROGRAF warranty reads:

"This warranty shall not extend to consumables, such as paper, ink
cartridges and print heads, as to which there shall be no warranty or
replacement."

Rgardless of what it says there are laws that do protect the purchaser.
If you buy one and the printhead fails in a very short period of time
Canon will have to replace it under various laws of merchantability.

So even if you use canon's way overpriced oem ink they will still screw you?
Well,well, well...so now it's total war with the morons. Thank G_d I
haven't given any of these money grabbing bozos any of my hard earned
money for their overprice oem crap ink for over a decade.

G'day John. Canon also recommends that the 2 printer heads be replaced
annually @ the price of $600 per head!! Crikey - they must be made out of
platinum. *reaching for the smelling salts*
