Printer ready but will not print

I have had an Okidata C5200 connected via USB port to a computer running
Windows XP Pro for about a year. There are times that the printer is in the
ready status, the Printer and Faxes Control Panel indicate:

C5200n
1
Ready

but the document will not print. Right clicking on the printer and
selecting 'properties' does nothing. I was attempting to try a test page but
since properties will not do anything, I cannot do even that.

Prior to this failure, I had just printed 3 pages from a different program
and it worked fine.

I had the problem earlier in the day and uninstalled and reinstalled the
printer and it seemed to work, but I cannot keep performing this methodology.

Try replacing the USB cable, I have had a couple fail and cause this sort of
problem. Also I have seen one OKI printer of this series suffer from a corroded
USB connection.

In Device Manager, under the USB ports, look in the Power Management tab...
are they set to hibernate to save power.. if so disable this feature.

I'm not sure I dare ask how it got corroded. Coffee maybe? It's like
seeing cars with rust; here in Vegas the humidity is so low it's kind of a
not everyday thing.

Cari, ask away....
It was in a large commercial bakery, a horrible environment. The printer was
used to print labels for packaged bread products and it went off into the blue
yonder every day or so. Replacing the interface board was the final fix (until
the next time).

Power Save is not activated. Thanks anyway.

Do other USB devices work fine? How many do you have attached? Front or
Rear ports of the PC... or if a hub, Powered or Unpowered? PSU wattage?

Powered hub connected to rear ports. 5 other USB devices working fine. 2
hard drives, 1 cd drive, 1 HP printer and 1 HP flatbed scanner. UPS connected
to fromt USB port. I don't know the PS wattage but the computer is a Compaq
Evo D310. Since the properties will not activated, I suspect it is a Windows
problem rather than the actual printer.

Next thing to try would be installing the Okidata on another PC and see if
it exhibits the same behavior there. Since you don't seem to have any
problems with the other USB devices, at this point I'd rule out a hardware
or software issue with your actual PC... and concentrate on either the cable
or the printer itself.

There is a possibility that the status monitor for the HP printer and the
OKI printer have a conflict.
Also, as a quick check, I usually connect the offending printer to a direct
USB port, not a hub.
