Printer problem

I have just purchased a new computer and i can't get the
printer to work. I have installed printer ok but for some
reason I have no power to the printer which was working
fine before with the previous computer. I have checked
the connections twice with no success can you advise
could it be the printer is not compatable with this
computer as the printer is very old (HP DeskJet 400)
 
The power for the printer is completely separate from the power to the PC.
If the printer has absolutely no power, then it is time to seek professional
assistance from your local technical repair store... although this printer
is now so old, it's probably not economically viable to get it fixed.

If it's a problem in actually getting the data from PC to printer, then it's
not a power issue.
