Printer problem

Old problem, unsolved, MS couldn't fix it, so I'm going to try here one more
time.

Setup: Desktop (Vista Ultimate, self-built) connected to Linksys router via
ethernet. Laptop (Vista Home Premium) connected wirelessly.

Problem: The network is set up, each PC recognizes the other. My printer
is setup on both PC's. On the laptop, however, in Network & File Sharing,
the Share Printer option is grayed out, says there is no printer. I can go
to Printers, however, and there it is, plain as day. Password Protected
Sharing is off on both computers.

Now here's the funny part. I can print a test sheet, and I can print
emails. When I try to print something else, however, such as printing out a
copy of my Belarc advisor, the Canon option box comes up, I click on print,
and I get "Unknown printer error occurred".

This problem started several months ago after I installed SP1. I went
through several email exchanges with MS, tried several different things such
as disabling my security, but nothing worked. I finally just gave up on it,
but my curiosity got the best of me, and I thought I would try one more time.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I'd run with that suggestion also, plus check that there isn't separate
versions for Ultimate & Premium required (unlikely but you never know).

If Canon have a forum and or FAQ on their website, check there too.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will give them all a try.

The drivers were not the problem, the basic software is included with the
drivers, and the Canon website only shows one set of drivers for Vista. The
problem seems to be that I cannot turn on Printer Sharing on the laptop
(grayed out), and I can't figure out why. I do thank you all for the
suggestions, if anything else occurs to you, let me know.

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry it didn't help.

Clutching at straws here, but are both printer entries set as default?

Yes, they are. Something else, though. I right clicked on the printer
(laptop), clicked on Run as Administrator, and then clicked on Properties.
Almost everything is grayed out, I can't make any changes, or very few. This
is not the case on my desktop. I'm wondering if this is simply some sort of
permissions issue. I know very little about permissions in Vista, but it
appears I may be locked out from managing the printer, including enabling
Printer Sharing. What do you think?

Ah! This could very well be the reason and worth investigating.

Good Luck!
