printer prints poorly missing every other line

my printer will not print from the computer. Every other
line is missing and the lines that are there are
distorted. It will copy pages well. but will not print
from microsoft word or on line

The usual solution is to run a maintenance cycle to clean the print head,
then an alignment cycle... if both fail, replace the printhead.
