Printer goes "offline"

I just upgraded from Windows 98SE to XP Home edition. Now
my printer, a Xerox Workcentre XK35c, defaults
to "offline." Every time I turn off my computer and turn
it back on, it will reset to "offline." I finally found
that I can go into "Control Panel," "Printers," and
after clicking on the icon of my printer the window that
comes up, allows me to choose "online." But it will reset
to offline at the end of the day when I turn off the
computer or restart. How can I get my printer to default
to "Online?"

I have this exact same problem.
Does anyone have a resolution to this??
