Printer offline when trying to cancel printout

I have such problem on an HPF380: when I realize that something is wrong
with the printout (wrong format, ink lacking) and try to break the print
off, tipically I subtract the sheets from the feeder, the printer goes
out-of-paper, then I turn the printer off and cancel the print queue, I
switch the printer on but the printer goes offline and I cannot make it
ready anymore - I'm forced to reset the PC. Any ideas?

You need to cancel the print job, rather than take the paper from the
printer.... I think you're confusing the poor printer.

I take the paper from the printer because, as you know, the printer has
already received in its buffer a certain amount of text to print, so if I
only cancel the print queue, some other pages will be printed and I think
the only way to cancel the printer buffer is to switch the printer off.
Anyway I think the printer must not go offline in an unrecoverable manner,
whatever can be the action of the user - don't you think so?
