print spooler keeps stopping

Here's my problem...we are running W2k Server with WinPro
machines all connecting via Term Servs. On a daily basis
users get at an error msg stating something to the effect
of "you must set a default printer..." or "printer
subsystem is unavailable" when they try to print. Upon
investigation, I find EVERY TIME that it is the print
spooler service that abruptly stops for no reason. I'll
start it and everything is fine until the next time.

fyi we have just one network printer...Lexmark 1855S and 2
local printers shared out to the network...Hp 1200 and
Okidata.

Thanks for any assitance!

A crashing printer spooler is a common problem when you install
3th party printer drivers on a Terminal Server.

The trick to avoid this is:

1) uninstall all 3th party printer drivers completely
2) use the native printer drivers from your W2K installation CD
for printers that you install directly on the TS
3) for redirected local printers: map the local drivers to native
drivers on the server by creating a custom .inf file. Details are
explained here:

239088 - Windows 2000 Terminal Services Server Logs Events 1111,
1105, and 1106

You can check the recommended native driver substitution for your
local printers here:

Hi,

Note: Please backup the registry keys first then delete anything
You can try this
1)
goto
HKLM\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\PRINT\MONITORS
first backup this Print key
Delete all the third party port monitors key

except
bj language
local port
pjl language monitor
standard tcp/ip
usb monitor

2)HKLM\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\PRINT\environments\windows nt
x86\printprocessors
delete all the keys

except winprint
