print spooler

my default printer is compaq printer. It was working fine. I installed a
Lexmark all -in one- printer, fax, scanner, copier. Everything worked fine
for a couple of days. Then the Lexmark printer stopped functioning. At that
time my default Compaq printer was still working. Now neither are working.
When I try to add printer for check for installed printers, I get error
message "1068 printer spooler in not running". In the administrative
services the print spooler is indicated to be set at "automatic" & it wont
restart even when I click "start". I uninstalled the Lexmark printer.
Still shows print spooler as "stopped". Is the Lexmark printer not
completely uninstalled or ???
I'd appreciate any suggestions.
