Print Spooler dead

Win XP Pro keeps giving me the message "Spooler SubSystem App has encountered
a problem and needs to close." And all the installed printers are gone. The
error report gives the following data "szAppName : spoolsv.exe szAppVer :
5.1.2600.2696 szModName : Sr32.dll
szModVer : 6.0.909.0 offset : 0001f6a3 ". How can I get the sprint
spooler up and running? A reboot doesn't help.

Got the print spooler running from the Computer Managemnt screen. But now
there is a phantom document stuck in the print que. How do I get rid of it?

Generally, stopping and starting the print spooler by

net stop spooler
net start spooler

will clear the queue. If it doesn't, stop the spooler then go to
%windir%\system32\spool\PRINTERS\ and delete the files. Then re-start
the spooler.
