print some black docs, not others!

Hi! A Canon S300 previously working fine with XP. The more I consider this, I
realise the problem is post format, reinstalling XP, adding SP2.
I can print in colour, but black text is missing. If I use Lotus, black will
not print, but changing the text colour works fine. (Yes, I know, I could not
detect any ink in the cartridge - but having replaced it - still no go). I
then happened to try a Word doc in Word Viewer & it was fine. The same prog
would not oblige with a text file (which is the same from Notepad).
Have tried updating drivers, uninstalling & reinstalling the printer &
drivers. Any suggestions? Cheers,
pete

A bad (worn out or defective) black print head. Start looking for a
replacement printer like at eBay.

I don't believe the print head is a problem - as I said a Word doc in Word
Viewer was fine. The same prog would not oblige with a text file (which is
the same from Notepad). The Word doc was 1st class.

If the printer self test page prints correctly, the printer is OK.
When you reinstalled the printer--
Did You--
Use a tool on the canon website to cleanup the system after the uninstall?
Download and install a newer driver version?
Check the driver options? Sometimes you may need to toggle an option, exit,
then toggle the option the desired way.
You might also try turning HD delayed write off while you are
troubleshooting. (Long shot, but occasionally helps)

Thanks, Chuck.

The test page is ok (although the head alignment test shows centre & right
columns only - but as I say - the Word doc is fine).
I cannot locate a 'cleanup' tool on the Canon site. Yes, the old driver was
uninstalled, & I have again tried both the original cd & latest drivers.
Can't see any driver options. How do I 'turn HD delayed write off'?
Thanks again

Thanks. I have tried complete uninstall & reinstall 3 times @ least. This
printer has had limited use. It prints a Word doc fine. Still hoping for a
solution - which would seem to be a Windows solution. Regards.
