It's possible, of course, that you may be dealing with a defective HDD
regardless of the fact that the disk is detected in Device Manager and
indicates it's "working properly".
I assume that the drive was working properly and this problem just arose,
correct? It's not a brand-new drive, right?
Have you accessed Disk Management to see if the drive is listed there?
You might also want to check out the disk with the HDD diagnostic utility
that you can download from the disk's manufacturer.
