Preview of .jpg files in Windows Explorer

Until yesterday, I could click once on a .jpg file and
have a thumbnail preview appear to the left of the list of
files. Now it doesn't work. This happened a while ago in
98, too; can anyone suggest why, and how to fix it?

Thanks, Emmers, but I discovered a much easier solution:
reinstall IE5.5!

I'll see if that works in 98, too!
