Prevent saving files on desktop

Hi,

I am trying to lock doen a PX running Windows XP. However I am having
problems trying to prevent users saving files etc on the desktop. Does anyone
know the registry setting to prevent the saving of files on desktop?

There is no registry setting for this. The desktop is a folder in the
"documents and settings" heirarchy. You'll find it on:

drive:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\userid\DESKTOP

You could perhaps play around with permissions on that folder to remove
write access to the desktop. But there could be some strange side-effects
since it isn't something we test. Some applications that expect to write to
the desktop will fail.

Hi Steve,

For some reason I do not have the security tab to do anything with the
permissions. I am logged in,locally as administrator?

Hi

How to access the Security tab:

For Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, you must start the computer in
safe mode, and then log on with an account that has Administrative
rights to have access to the Security tab.

For Windows XP Professional, the instructions here can be
followed:
