Prefix http:// issue

Hi,

I seem to be experiencing a fault with IE 6.0.29. Typing an address into the
address bar and hitting return (or clicking the Go button), the address is
not auto-completed with the "http://" prefix, nor does the browser attempt to
access the URL. This problem seems to have appeared in tandem with a refusal
by the browser to auto-complete previously accessed URLs.

The autocomplete preferences are set to complete web addresses and forms but
this doesn't seem to have any effect.

Entering an address into the bar with the "http://" prefix explicitly
included results in normal functioning. The URL is requested and the page
retrieved.

Any ideas?

Hi IDS :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Cannot type an address without adding http://
First. Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> put a check by "Use inline
AutoComplete."

If no joy, then try the following:

This will restore the Windows defaults for a whole lot of Search related

CAUTION: BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST!

Close IE, copy the bold to Notepad, save as Search.reg (save as 'all files',

Hi again,

Thanks for the suggestions, I've tried them all but to no success. Maybe
it's not registry related?

Hi IDS :)

If you have tried all the suggestions that I provided and still have the
problem, then indeed, it is likely spyware or malware is the culprit.

Try the following and see if it helps. Please follow all instructions
carefully:

Click Start, Run and type CONTROL INETCPL.CPL
Select Content tab, and click AutoComplete button
In the Use AutoComplete for section, put a checkmark near Web addresses
Click OK, OK to close the dialog.

OR

Using Regedit, browse to the following registry key and make sure the noted
setting is correct:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoComplete]
"Append Completion"="yes"

also see the following values:

"Use AutoComplete"="yes"
"AutoSuggest"="no"

Click Start | Run and type
control inetcpl.cpl
Select Content tab, and click AutoComplete button
In the Use AutoComplete for section, put a checkmark near Web addresses
Click OK, OK to close the dialog.

Equivalent registry value for this setting

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoComplete

Value named: AutoSuggest of type REG_SZ
Possible value-data: yes | no

You may have to Restart the computer.
