Are you using something other than US-English regional settings.?

Yes. I use UK English regional settings. That's why I'm seeking advice.
Having never heard of this before, I wonder if the restriction to US-English
is only applicable to the latest version.

Works for me using "English" settings and worked for me in Canada using
"Canadian English " settings.

I've just been to download TweakUI from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
but found the following:
"PowerToys will only work with US-English regional settings."

I've never heard this mentioned anywhere else when TweakUI was recommended.
Does anyone have any comments on this, please?

It is a precaution, because it has not been tested on other variants of
the system. It will work on other English Language versions, and if
yours is non-English it will not do any real harm to try; at worst it
might generate some registry settings that would be ignored and fail to
give results. You could see if that is likely by running regedit.exe
and see if names of keys or values are not in English: eg open to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

If in the right pane there are lines like 'FolderContentsInfoTip' and
'DisableThumbnailcache' then I would expect it to work: if those are
translated to say French equivalents, it won't.

Have a restore point made before trying it so you could easily wind back

You don't see the point mentioned because there are few non-English
users around here

Regional settings are not at issue. It is the fundamental language in
which messages appear that matters. Versions sold in the UK will
support it
