PowerPoint Transitions seem to lock cpu

I am "speaking" in front of my machine while running slide viewer. I
have a MP3 recorder running in the backgroud to record my voice. Well,
when PowerPoint transitions occur, I always get "hazards" on the
recording. I even get some transitions that last 5 or 6 seconds and
during this, no sound gets recorded, meaning no CPU cycle is given to
the MP3 recorder.
I did try this on various configs, 2000, XP, etc... I do not expect
perfect result but still...
I tried various priorities, giving less importance to PPT, more
priority to MP3 recording, etc... Whatever I do, PowerPoint always
seems to steal all CPU cycles !
Has anybody experienced - and may be kind of solved this issue ? This
was my first attempt before writing a small VB plug-in for
PowerPoint...
Thanks

What version of PowerPoint are you using? Also, what transition effect have
you used? Fade thru black is a resource hog and a few others are apparently
pretty greedy too.
