link 1 mp3 file to 48 slides so each slide plays matching segment

For my Latin class, I have one MP3 file reading nine hundred lines of
Vergil's Aeneid. I've broken the poem across 48 slides, about 20 lines per
slide. Each slide is timed to transition to match the recording. The
problem is, once it's started, there's no skipping back and forth; the MP3
file keeps playing. Of course, I could break the one file into 48 files, but
that would be tedious and involve a lot of files. Is there some way
PowerPoint can--based on the total length of the MP3 file and the timing of
each file--determine where the MP3 file should play based on which slide is
showing.

Well, I've gotta say, that short and (not) sweet. But thanks. This might be
something the PowerPoint people might want to look into, though. It
certainly can't be that complicated of a feature, and I'm sure a lot of
people besides the oddball Latin teacher could use such a feature. One idea
would be for PowerPoint capable of recognizing the markers in a mp3/wma file.

Afraid not. And between that and the fact that PPT doesn't synch reliably to
sound, it's kind of a non-starter. You've already worked out the solution,
tedious though it may be.
