Powerpoint 2007 quits unexpectedly on linked mp3

Hi all,

We got a problem with one PC, Powerpoint 2007 terminates unexpectedly
when playing a show that has a linked mp3. The Mp3-file is in the same
dir as the PPT. The mp3 is on the second slide, and start automatically.

When the presentation starts, the first slide is shown correctly, but on
the transition to the second slide, the one with the audio on, the
second slide is briefly shown. And Powerpoint quits.

The same presentation plays correctly on another PC.

Presentations that are using embedded WAV-files are shown correctly.

We suspect the problem lies in the connection between Powerpoint and
MediaPlayer/DLL/???

Things we tried:
* installation SP
* repair of Office
* re-installatie Office + SP
* updating the audio-driver
alas to no avail.

What can we do to rectify this problem, apart from re-installing the OS?

regards,

Bart Deschacht

Does the PC that plays the file correctly have Media Player 10 or 11
installed? Rolling back to Media Player 10 worked for me. 11 was causing
problems.

Bart,

You might find this tutorial to be of help.

Hi,

It did help. I installed "K-Lite Codec Pack 4.1.7 FULL version" which
resolved the problem.

I lost a lot of time for not having the correct information ( eventlog,
connection Powerpoint & MCI etc. )

best regards,

Bart

Glad to hear you got it sorted out! But a word of caution, it may not work
when moved to another PC. It depends what codecs they have installed.
