Power Settings

When I go to Settings, Display Properties, Screen Saver, Power Option Properties and
set the "Turn Off Monitor" after 15 minutes, my monitor does in fact shut down...for
awhile.

Sometime later (hours, day, week), my Monitor will no longer "Turn Off", even though the
values are still set. My "Screen Saver" option is set to "None".

Can someone explain why this is happening and/or what I can do to fix it?

Thanks,
Bernie

I've had this happen for years. Annoying, ain't it? But my screensaver is set to "Default" (blank, with password) for 9 minutes, and turn off monitor after 10 minutes.

I have the same problem, using same settings. Started like yours, losing
setting after a few days, now is after every reboot! Don't know what is
causing it. Also don't have startup music, although once startup is
complete all other event sounds work.

Comrades,

What drives me crazy is that every computer I've ever built for home use has
had the same symptom; the screen power save would sometimes and sometimes
not work. If I change my timeout setting to any other time (say from 3 to 5
minutes or from 5 to 3 minutes), then it might be good until I reboot.
Your first reaction is that I'm repeatedly making the same mistake. How
about this: Part of my job responsibilities is to build computers and
install W2K and the work software. In some situations, the motherboards are
exactly the same as my home computers (no, I didn't steal them). Yet the
screen power mode functions properly at work but not at home. I don't use
funky software (games) at home. I use compilers (but not everyday), read
newsgroups and use the same word processor at work. I even use the same
anti-virus software. This has had me stumped for years.

Surely someone must have some clue.
