Power Point Viewer format

Recently, whenever someone sends me a ppt presentation, my laptop defaults to
the ppt viewer format and I am unable to edit the presentation. How do I set
my computer so that it defaults to the "normal" ppt format whenever a ppt
file is sent to me?
