Power Point Viewer 2003

Power Point Viewer 2003 will not open my "pps" files. It gives me an error
msg that say there is not file assocation; that I should go to "folder
options" and make a file assocation. However, there is a file assocation for
"pps and ppt" files. What is wrong? How do I correct the problem?

If you use Outlook Express as your mail client, and you are trying to open an
email attachment, and you have Windows XP SP2 installed, and you do not have the
full PowerPoint application installed on the system, there is a known bug that
causes the problem you describe. The only available work around at this time is
to save the attachment to your hard drive and open it from there.

Sonia, thanks.
This partially solves the problem. I did save it to my hard drive. When I
tried to open it by double clicking the file Power Point Viewer open and then
takes you to the print window. When I right click the files it ask gives you
the option of what program to open it with. Again, if I choose Power Point
Viewer it opens and then goes to the print window. However, if I right click
and choose "show" it opens immediately, but to go from slide to slide I have
to right click in the window and choose "next".

The navigation is probably whatever the author created. If they didn't set the
slides to transition on mouse click or automatically, you should be able to
press N or the right arrow or Page Down, etc. to go to the next slide. Open the
slide show and press F1 and you'll see all the possibilities. Again, slide
navigation is whatever the creator did or did not set up.

Check your file associations. It sounds like the default is set up to print.
Set it to Show and it will work the way you want. Open My Computer and go to
Tools > Folder Options > File Types. Locate .PPS and click on Advanced. Locate
Show in the Action list and press the button that's labeled Set Default, or
something like that.
