Power Point Trial

If we order a trial version and spend lots of time and effort putting
together a presentation with it, will it function just like 'real' PP
software.
IOW, can we use it just like the 'real thing'?

For 30 days, I think it is. Yes.
Then it goes into reduced functionality mode and lets you open/view
presentations but not edit them until you purchase and activate it.
