I have had to put together a presentation over the hoidays and downloaded a
trial of "Microsoft® Office Home and Student 2007". I'm now worried that
this wont play on the school computers if they have an earlier version (I
know I wont be able to install any new updated software onto them).
Also after the trial ends will all the other word programs that have changed
on my computer just return to the old version or have I made a major mistake
installing the trial?
Am I stuffed?

In PowerPoint 2007 click on Save As and choose the 97-2003-file format. This
should run on older computers, too. But: you might lose some of the new
effects of Office 2007. Soft shadows will be converted to the old shadows,
3D-bevels will be shown but not be editable, and so on.

On the long run, you should talk to the person in charge of the school
computers and ask them to install the Compatibility Pack. It is a free
download from Microsoft's website and will enable them to open the new file
formats.

You can either buy the new version, if you like it. Or uninstall it and
re-install your older version of Office. If you download and install the
Compatibility Pack, you can still open the files created in the new version.

Yes, that's what I would recommend, there is no automatic uninstall process
after the trial ends.
