Trial version does what?

Simpliciter

I just downloaded installed and activated the trial version of office 2007
pro, just so i could play with the new powerpoint a little. However, it wont
let me do ANYTHING, except for opening an existing pp file and looking at it.
EVERYTHING is greyed. I cannot edit anything, or even type anything. Is this
normal? I assumed that the trial might have some limited functions.. but this
won't let me do anything whatsoever. Is this right? I mean how is it a trial
if you can't try anything at all other than opening the program and staring
at a blank screen with nothing to do. Someone throw me a frickin bone here
please.

I said I activated it in the first sentence of my post. It asks you right
when you run it the first time to activate online (you have no choice not
to), and I did, then got the screen where I could do nothing. I searched and
there are a couple of other posts on this subject. Both were replied by "you
have to activate it", and the original poster, like I am now, replied "I did
activate it". That confirmed, any other suggestions? I'm really open here.

Oh you suggest I pay 200 dollars for the full version do you? On a college
student's budget. You don't think a trial should you know, let you TRY
things? That I NEED to do for school? It says TRY IT FREE for 60 days. Sounds
nice. Not stare at a blank screen that won't let you test out a single
feature for 60days. My opinion is MS might have actually intended letting
people try the features for 60 days, but they are so asleep at the wheel they
accidentally disabled everything. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for
now, its the kind of person I am. Your reply is so helpful I think it
motivated me to go download office from a p2p site. :pokes you in the eyes:

Sorry, I obviously missed that.

If you're opening an existing PPT file, then it's probably still in
compatibility mode. Does it say that in the titlebar on the window?

Try Office Button | Save As and save the file as a PPTX (PowerPoint 2007
format) file. Do things become available then?

Hey thanks for replying again. Actually it's funny, I opened office again
today and magically, I could now use PP. I supposed the activation process
was somehow delayed? It works now though, and I'm happy.
