Power Options

Just a little issue, but I like to have the Power Options icon showing in
the lower right toolbar. It won't stay there for long on its own. I have
to keep re-applying the option. Any ideas why?

That desktop area is called the "System Tray". If you are using
"Default" XP GUI settings, did you Right Click the icon and then
set the option "Always Show" ? It (icon) may be hidden behind
the chevron symbol where hidden icons resides.
Or is the situation where the check/tic in the "Always Show Icon
on the Taskbar" isn't sticky (retains the value selected) ?

I've checked the box in the Power Options window. The icon seems to stay in
the System Tray area until I reboot for whatever reason and then I have to
uncheck/apply, then recheck/apply for it to return.
