Power Options not working

What Now

Hello,

XP SP2 on Dell Vostro 1000 laptop.

Power Options were working fine until I had to wipe the drive,
reformat and reinstall Windows [due to a rootkit]. Have been up and
running again for a couple weeks, but the settings under Power Options
do not work since I reinstalled Windows.

I have one power scheme set to turn off my monitor after 1 minute, but
it never goes off. So I switched back to the default Desk/Office
scheme Windows has, but it still won't work. It won't power down the
drives or put it into standby either. It just seems to ignore the
settings all together and leave everything powered up no matter how
long it sits. (I know this because I left it on overnight last night
and this morning the LCD was still on and everything was still powered
up.)

I do *not* have a 3rd party screensaver installed, nor do I have the
screensaver option active.

Anyone? Thanks.

Yes Shenan, thank you. I keep the Vostro updated and after the
reinstall of Windows I reinstalled all the same Dell drivers I'd
archived before the reformat... which were all fairly new. (I check
for Dell updates every few months.) Then I checked again for even
newer drivers just as a matter of course. Everything from BIOS to
touchpad to wifi is as updated as it gets. :)
