Home / Office Desk Power Option failed to turn off LCD screen

Hi,

My OS is MS Window XP (Home) Edition.

I have set my power option as "Home / Office Desk Scheme" which is suppose
to turn off my LCD screen after 10 minutes if the PC remains inactive.

Lately I find that this feature is not working at all. I need to turn off
the screen manually if I play music for long hours.

May I know what are the possible causes and how to deal with this problem ?

Thanks

Low

Check and update any / all video card drivers. It is the video card
drivers that are used to control the LCD and sometimes these fail to
understand some of the power options.

The problem is that if you use the PC to play Music then the system is
NOT Idle, and then the timer will not reach 10 minutes, and so not turn
off the Screen.

Hi Bob,

But previously when the music played for more than 10 minutes, the screen
could be shut down automatically. Quite surprising to me.

When the CPU is running more than about 10-20% usage then the Idle timer
is not going to allow Standby. This can be the result of additional
background programs running also. If you have increased the incremental
use if the CPU then you will not have the Standby being invoked.

If you set your screensaver to 'none' then, the screen will shut down after
a time set regardless of whether or not
you play music..
