Is there any way to disable the power options in windows XP Pro SP2? I have a
windows 2003 server domain running active directory. I have workstations in
conference rooms that go into standby after a user logs out at the end of the
day and anti-virus, Spyware and updates do not run in the middle of the
night. In the morning when someone wakes up the machine it starts scanning
for viruses, scanning for Spyware and the machine is virtually unusable for
about an hour. I have tried to hack the registry and remove the power options
keys, but after reboot, the operating system restores the keys, tried to
create a GPO and am unable to locate the correct options to set.... Any
suggestions on how to disable this option system/network wide....

Why not just disable Standby and Hibernate and set the Monitor to
Shut down after say an hour of inactivity. Also, disable the hard disk
from spinning down. You'll loose power savings, but the machines
should stay up and running. Just be sure to set the USB Hubs to not
shut down and inhibit the NIC's Power Saving mode as well.

You have to disable standby and higernate in all of the user profiles. I
don't want to have to login to the conference room PC's with all the
differernt users logins and change these settings. If I could just remove the
power option all together from the operating system that would be great. It
would be a one time fix other wise I would have to setup individual profiles
on the conference room PC's for every user and then login as them to change
the setting you are talking about. That would take way to much time and I
would have to remove profiles when prople leave our company and create them
when we hire new ones. There has to be a way.
