power options icon in system tray

Every time I reboot my HP Pavilion laptop, I loose the
power options icon in the system tray. I have checked
that it is marked as 'always on' and although I can
reinstate it manually, this is very annoying and as a
laptop user, when on battery power I want to keep a close
eye on the battery status. Does anyone know how I deal
with this?

produced some icons I had forgotten about! It's made all
the difference.
