Post your list of freeware programs and their sites.

Hi Everyone,

I know that Pricelessware has the lists of the "favorite" or "best"
freeware as chosen by the participants of this newsgroup---but what
about the freeware programs that came in second place or third place?

What I mean is this: In the last few weeks, I have picked up some
astonishingly useful freeware programs through the advice and postings
that I've found on this newsgroup, yet these wonderful programs don't
appear on Pricelessware.

Some of this freeware is found in far-flung reaches of the Internet
where Google's bots haven't ventured yet. Just yesterday I picked up
two programs that I have added to my permanent collection for daily
use. How many other little "jems" have been found "out there" in the
expanse of cyberspace?

Could people start posting their lists of useful and/or favorite
freeware and the URL's for downloading? Some of these programs are just
wonderful but they are only found in one place or in some dark corner
of an obscure and unassuming personal webpage somewhere...

For example, my collection appears below. Some of these programs appear
on Pricelessware---but some do not.

I may be arguing for the sake of argument here, but is this really
considered freeware? It's an update for a commercial operating system!

Should we also start including, say, hardware drivers on this forum?

I'm trying to expose and share freeware that is not readily advertised
anywhere else, and not widely known or discussed here. The first step
to do that is to share lists of freeware that might contain
freeware-jems that no one else has found yet--so that we can all say
"Hey, I haven't seen THAT one before." The chance for mistakes or
duplications is always present. Just ignore them and move on with the
search.

When you're searching for diamonds, you have to dig through a lot of
dirt. Ignore the dirt, stay focused on finding the diamonds.

Don't think I've seen this one here before - Malwhere.

Doesn't replace any anti-spy or anti-virus programs, but it is a
second opinion.

" • Detailed information about each and every process that is
running. It provides you with the tools to terminate and eliminate
any program that may disrupt, damage, slowdown or crash your system.

• Detailed information about the files that execute (run) when
Windows starts. Giving you the power to control which files will
load on Windows startup.

• Reliable information to immediately improve the speed of
your computer and to break off any security threat.

• Generic process identification, no need to update the
program's database, it will investigate each suspicious process for
you using its state of the art AI (Artificial Intelligent) engine!

• Simple color scheme makes sure that even the most novice
user will know when malicious process is running on his computer.

• Very simple and intuitive Slick user interface."

• The perfect complement to firewalls and anti-virus software.

• Absolutely Free! NO BUNDLED SOFTWARE OF ANY KIND!"

DANGER, Will Robinson. Despite the author's claims to the contrary, this
program is identified at many places on the Internet as malware itself.
Even the forums at the site are full of messages that antispyware
programs identified Malwhere as malware.

From Spyware Nuker at nuker.com:

Software Name: Malwhere
Company Name: Ran Geva
Product Name: Malwhere
Classification: Bundleware
Website: http://www.malwhere.com

Brief:
Claims to monitor all processes that run on a users system and is able to
identify those that are a security risk. However, this software comes
bundled and silently installs multiple adware and trackware programs.

application ...

They're listed on the ACF program information pages.

erm. . . maybe you just didn't look in the right place. ;)

The ACF Program Index page is here:
http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/acf/P_ProgramIndex.php

about 4000 apps that have been mentioned in ACF. . .
NOT a complete list. . .
Could people start posting their lists of useful and/or favorite

Good idea. :)

A nice list. Following the Verschwindibus link led me to another program
(Speakonia) although there is a link to Verschwindibus on the page. Details
of both programs

<quote>

CFS-Technologies Speakonia is a FREE Text-To-Speech (TTS) GUI (graphical
User-Interface) Program which uses the Microsoft ® Speech Technology. The
easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) is similar to Notepad. Speakonia
reads aloud any given text with just one mouse click!
The reading can be paused, resumed and can be exported to a wave file. In
addition Speakonia is able to fetch webpages through an internal http
interface and read them aloud for you. You can even have your mails read to
you using the "Clipboard Reading" feature.

Verschwindibus is a powerful and free desktop tool. It hides any running
window (the hidden program remains in memory) and reactivates it if needed.
The hotkeys and system tray icon are customizable and start menu & desktop
icons can be toggled visible/invisible. Verschwindibus can easily be
controlled through the system tray and has received high ratings:

Two of my favourites are these small text manipulation programs:

Right Left Sort http://pweb.sophia.ac.jp/~britto/rls/
Linestrip http://www.lexacorp.com.pg/

FWIW, the first version of Spyware Nuker released in 2002 was a BPS
clone. Ver. 2.0 was developed an maintained in-house. It is in its
fourth iteration and it is a respectable app. There is a 60-day trial
build published on download.com.
