One firewall should be enough. Or else you will have to configure them both
each time you need to open a port.

.....And then sometime you'll forget to open some port in one firewall and
you'll spend days in trying to troubleshoot an issue and then you'll come
here again and write that i have opened the ports in my firewall but it
still does not work... :)

Hi

You don't need both firewalls running, otherwise you may get some
conflicts - may I suggest that you disable the XP one.

Why are you using 2 firewalls? That is completely unnecessary, it
doesn't give you any added security, all it does is add an extra layer
of complexity and an extra avenue for problems and troubleshooting
headaches. Decide which firewall you want to use and turn the other one
off.

Disable XP's firewall, not enable it. Typo?

Install up thru SP2 (but not SP1), ALL available AV and spyware tools you
have, then go online for the XP updates and while they're loading, update
your AV and spyware tools or redownload the ones you don't already have.

Do not bother installing SP1 if it's a separate operation: SP2 includes ALL
of SP1's changes plus a lot more, so you don't need SP1.

_____

Disconnect from Internet and any LAN.

Scan for viruses and other malware. Perhaps using a multiple scanner
collection if prior infection is possible.

Reinstall Windows XP.

Install antivirus resident program.

Purchase a NAT capable router, connect to your system and setup (price can
be less than the cost of an antivirus program).

Connect NAT to Internet.

Update antivirus program.

Install Service Packs.

Install critical upgrades to Windows XP.

Install and update other anti-malware programs.

Finish updating Windows XP.

Keep a sharp eye on your Internet use.

You mean Zone *Alarm*?

(enable XP's firewall),

No, with ZA running, you should *dis*-able the X firewall.

Anti-virus,Windows upgrades
(critical only),

No, you should install upgrades *after* installing SP2.

SP1 and 2

No, install SP2 only. It includes the SP1 fixes.

Spyware,Malware.

I strongly suggest that you do *not* install any spyware or other malware.
Instead, you should install *anti*-spyware (anti-malware) applications. ;-)
