Subject: Windows XP update and MSN Messenger Sign-In
Question: I have two problems, I don't know if they are related and I
would be really grateful for any help. Thank you. Here are my problems:
1. I am trying to update windows xp and I get the following message:
"Updates were unable to be successfully installed. The following
updates were not installed: Cumulative Security Update for Internet
Explorer 6 Service Pack 1(KB889293)
2. I cannot sign in to MSN Messenger or my hotmail account, or my yahoo
mail account.
I changed all the passwords from another computer. I scanned my
computer for viruses with Norton Antivirus and apparently I don't have
a virus, even though last week there has been a virus alert for
MHTMLRedir.Exploit virus. It seems that Norton is not able to capture
it.
I also scanned my computer for adware, spyware, malware with Lavasoft
and identified, and deleted about 2000 files (critical objects).
In short I'd like to know why cannot I update windows and how can I
sign in on MSN Messenger. Thank you very much for your help!

Answer:
Disable your adware programmes and any anti virus software & firewall
remove & re-install msn and yahoo messenger
re-enable adware & antivirus update your antivirus but before doing
this disable system restore and this will delete all of your restore
points the virus may be trapped within the restore point then re-enable
it.
locate the wutemp folder delete any files in it restart your system
then it should have got rid of any bugs/viruses
This should solve it if not email me...
