Windows or MSN Messenger?

Stand-alone, non-networked home XP SP2 PC using Netscape 7.2 for browser
and email (I never use IE, MSN/Windows Messenger, Outlook or Outlook
Express). I need to access the Tool/Options bar in MSN or Windows
Messenger in order to clear up an Event Viewer error message (Event ID
4354), but don't know how to access the Messenger Program (I don't see
it anywhere on my system - a new Lenovo laptop with OEM-installed OS and
programs). Sorry for being so clueless, but I would appreciate some
help from somebody. Thank you.

Well if you never use IE, MSN/Windows Messenger ... why are you getting
error messages.
That should not be happening.

Check for installation of Windows Messenger under Add/Remove Programs |
Windows Components.
And you are using IE, indirectly, since you do use Windows Explorer.

Thank you for the tips. I verified that Windows Messenger is not
installed (and I don't need it to be) on my system (its box was
unchecked in Add/Remove Programs Windows Components).

The error message I get occurs whenever I start or stop my wireless
modem (built-in Verizon EVDO card) connecting to my ISP. The only the
thing that I've found on the internet about the Event ID 4354 error
message is either on the MS help site or refers to it, and this is where
it talks about a work around (i.e., change the options in Windows
Messenger, Outlook and Outlook Express not to start when the OS starts.

So, I now know that Windows Messenger is not the culprit. I also know
that Outlook Express (Ver. 6) does not appear to have "Do not start when
OS starts" option button that the MS help site says it does. And I have
yet to initiate Outlook from launching and configuring.

I'm beginning to suspect that the MS work around does not apply to my
specific problem.
