Possible Windows XP Pro bug??

I have two hard drives, one of them (the primary) is
divided into two partitions. On the second partition of
the first drive is where I've moved the my documents
folder, this is where I save everything I download,
OpenOffice documents, C++ files, mp3s, pictures I use as
my "slideshow" screensaver, and just about everything else
that is not a game and its 'game save' data. On the
second hard drive, the My Documents folder is backed up
(as of Sunday with no changes to the original).

I was just messing around this morning, when I selected
all hard drives / partitions and went to properties. I
clicked the 'security' tab, Windows popped up some warning
that one could click yes or no to. I can't remember what
the warning said, but I clicked yes. After a few seconds,
it came up with the security window--which was blank and
the checkboxes toward the bottom were greyed out. So, I
thought to myself, well, that didn't do anything.

Boy was I wrong.

I can now not access my hard drives or partitions. The
filesystems report as RAW (when viewed on my other
computer). I know the data is still there, there's been
nothing done to erase it. However, I'm at am impasse for
how to access it. I've tried putting the hard drives in
another computer. I've tried using data recovery
software, however, I can't find one that will allow me to
recover the data without first purchasing it. I did find
one, but it's so complex and no help file. Both hard
drives are affected. What do I do to get the data back?
And is this a bug or something different?

Thanks,
GAT

P.s. If anyone tries to replicate this and get the
warning, I recommend clicking 'no'. Unless you have
nothing to lose.

The warning that pops up says that security permissions are different
between the partitions. Do you want to reset permissions, yes - no.

I don't know what would have happened if I clicked yes, but I didn't, as I
would never allow the system to arbitrarily reset security permissions. I
want to control that myself, knowing what I am doing at any given instant!

Sorry I don't know how to solve for this problem, but you can recover your
files with any "good" 3rd party file recovery tool such as EasyRecovery Pro!
