Possible to delete a Primary Control Domain?

J

Joe D.

(oops, this is a repost of a question I mistakenly asked in the wrong area.)

I think I really screwed something up...

First of all, I am a PC novice. I messed around with some stuff and created
a primary domain controller for my server. (Windows 2000 Advanced Server) I
quickly realized this was *WAY* over my head, and now I just want to delete
it and rejoin the workgroup I was in prior. My problem is, it's not letting
me delete the domain controller or join a workgroup, the buttons are greyed
out. I am getting this message:

"Note: The identification of the computer cannot be changed because the
computer is a domain controller."

Is this reversable in any way? I'm over my head here, I really have no idea
what I'm in to now, and all I want is my workgroup access back. (and for
this nightmare to end hehe)

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Joe,

To demote a domain controller run the DCPROMO command (its the same command
used to promote the domain controller). You will lose all of the Active
Directory data on the server, but that does not sound like an issue in your
case.

Oh, one other thing, be aware that any users you created on the server will
be lost - the only local accounts will be Administrator and Guest.
