Possible to delete a domain controller?

J

Joe D.

I think I really screwed something up...

First of all, I am a PC novice. I messed around with some stuff and created
a primary domain controller for my server. (Windows 2000 Advanced Server) I
quickly realized this was *WAY* over my head, and now I just want to delete
it and rejoin the workgroup I was in prior. My problem is, it's not letting
me delete the domain controller or join a workgroup, the buttons are greyed
out. I am getting this message:

"Note: The identification of the computer cannot be changed because the
computer is a domain controller."

Is this reversable in any way? I'm over my head here, I really have no idea
what I'm in to now, and all I want is my workgroup access back. (and for
this nightmare to end hehe)

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Run DCPROMO..

Hi

this is because you promoted the Windows 2000 Server by executing DCPPROMO.exe which changed the member server into a domain controller having an Active Direcotry (AD).

To change this you have to execute DCPROMO.exe again to change the server back to a member server. After that you should be able (with administration rights) to join a workgroup again
