Possible problems with mouse??

I am having some problems with my mouse, I think. I have Win XP Home.
Whenever I click on the start button the menu comes up, but when I move the
mouse off of the start button to select something in that menu, the menu
closes. This also happens in Outlook Express when I attempt to change
folders from the Inbox to another folder, as soon as I move the mouse off of
the Inbox button, that drop-down menu closes and I cannot change folders
without doing so in the "view" section. Also, when a link is in an email, I
can no longer get to that webpage directly, I must copy and paste the link.
I have reinstalled my mouse driver and checked my mouse settings to no avail.
Any suggestions??

The problem first started when I was using a microsoft optical wheel mouse.
I re-installed the drivers for that mouse and nothing changed. I then
changed to a microsoft intellimouse explorer and removed the old drivers and
installed the new drivers that came with this new mouse...still no change. I
am beginning to think that it is not a mouse at all. Computer is a Dell
Demenision 8400, purchased in april 05, so the XP has all the service packs
already.

Try changing the mouse with another regular mouse and see if that will
isolate the issue.

I am having almost the same problems with my mouse system. I have a Dell
Dimension 9100, with a Logitech MX Laser wireless mouse. I have changed
drivers, tried a variety of mice. (everything from wireless to a very basic
wired mouse). Nothing has worked. I contacted logitech and they sent me a new
wireless mouse with latest software nothing helped.
What is happening is when I use outlook or quicken in particular (I use them
frequently), and I use the dropdown selectors (date, type of transaction,
time, etc.) as soon as i move from the (for lack of a better word) icon the
drop down item like the calender, disappears. When I touch back on the icon.
the calender comes back. Move the mouse and it disappears. HELP
