Strange things happening

I have Win XP. Whenever I click on the green start button, the menu appears,
but as soon as I move my mouse to select something in that menu, it closes.
Why??

Probably just a corrupt system file. Run CHKDSK to fix it like this: go to My
Computer --> right click C: --> Properties --> Tools --> Check Now. In the
submenu that appears next, checkmark the field "Automatically fix system file
errors" --> click Start. You'll get a message that the utility can't be run
because the disk can't be locked and whether you want to schedule a check on
the next reboot. Click "Yes" and then reboot.
