Menu options appearing

I have an Advent 5490 laptop running XP Home with SP2. Can anyone suggest
why menu options have suddenly started appearing at random in any windows I
have open (especially Internet Explorer)? As soon as I select something with
the mouse, an irrelevant drop-down menu option appears, generally from File
on the menu bar or the right click options. Despite clicking away from it,
the menu immediately comes back again, sometimes a different one. This is
particularly annoying as of course the menu box becomes the 'active' part of
the screen, stops the flashing cursor and prevents text being input using
the keyboard.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for my USB Logitech wheel
mouse to no avail.

If your mouse is wireless, change the batteries. If it isn't wireless, try a
different mouse.

I do not know how to start a new thread so I am interrupting this one sorry.
I have, much to my regret, installed Internet Explorer 7 beta over my tried
and true IE 6. Do you know, or know of a source that can tell me how to take
IE 7 beta out put IE 6 back in and not loose my data (like favorites etc)?
By the way what part of UK are you in? I am in Nebraska usa but my family
came from a small town in Scotland.
Thank you for your time.
Peace, happiness and love to you and yours

First of all, interrupting a current thread - especially one that has
nothing to do with your problem - is Right Out. It's called hijacking and
will get you and the Original Poster less help.

Second of all, you are posting in the wrong newsgroup. Questions about IE7
should be posted here:

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

I understand that the IE7 beta 3 that has just come out is very stable, but
it is *still* beta. Beta software is software that is unfinished and still
in the bug-checking phase. It is not recommended to run beta software on
production machines or on any machine which you are unwilling to wipe.

Thirdly, the reason you are having difficulties posting is because you are
using the web interface to these groups, which is awful. Instead, use a
real newsreader. It is very easy to set up. Here is information to help you
with that:

Since you are using the web interface, you may not realize that this is
really a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this resource if you learn
to use a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows, but you
can use Outlook Express since you already have it. Here are some links to
information about newsgroups:

Usenet

Using Outlook Express as Newsreader:

How to Post:

properly
http://www.mailmsg.com/SPAM_munging.htm - how to munge email address
http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm - multiposting vs. crossposting

And I'm sorry but I don't know the answer to your question because I don't
run beta software on production machines. The experts in the IE7 beta
newsgroup I gave you will be able to help.
